"Places and Stories": Purple Noon Gallery
Pictured: Owner/Curator of Purple Noon Gallery, Dr Robyn Williams
On the final weekend of the "Places and Stories" exhibit of Indigenous art at Purple Noon Gallery, Dr Robyn introduced me to the work of the remote West Australian community she lived with for a time while researching their relationship with art. She taught me about what distinguishes this particular community's art from the work of other Indigenous artists in other regions, and relayed to me the story of the Seven Sisters, which was depicted in the Jennifer Mitchell painting below. In the interview, Dr Robyn also explains to us the way that oral history skips "text" form and is expressed directly through painting. Take a tour of Purple Noon below, and do take some time to visit this wonderful gallery in Freeman's Reach sometime.
